Pompeii, Italy

19 July 2017

Pompeii was an ancient roman town. It was very dusty. It is very large, because it used to be a busy, roman town.
Archaeologists think people started living there in the 6-7th century BC.  It was destroyed when the next-door volcano erupted. People lived there for a long time.
In the town you could explore all the buildings. It feels you are just inside a normal town!
It was a very nice place. It’s not easy to get lost, and very easy to have fun.

  1. Silas, I loved the article on Pompeii. I remember it well and may have to get out and review my slides. I have been there twice while in the US Navy and stationed at the headquarters of Allied Forces in Southern Europe in nearby Bagnoli. Did you manage to climb the steps to the guard tower on the city wall facing Mount Vesuvius? I have a couple of slides from the top of that tower. Also, did you also make it to Herculaneum? It is a seaside city also destroyed by Vesuvius at the same time that Pompeii was. I lived in the Naples area for four years and never made it to Herculaneum. So, if you did, you are one up on me.
